What is Silicone Rubber Keypads
Silicone keypads are manufactured by the compression molding way, to create angled webbing around a switching center.
On depression of the switch, the webbing uniformly deforms to produce a tactile response. When pressure is removed from the switch, the webbing returns to its neutral position with positive feedback.
To make an electronic switch, a carbon or pill is placed on the base of the switching center which contacts a printed circuit board when the web has been deformed to have the conductive signal.
It is possible to vary the tactile response and travel of a key by changing the webbing design and/or the shore hardness of the silicone material.
Tactile forces can be as high as 500g depending on key sizes and shapes.

KEYPAD PRESSURE REFERENCE
The pressing force is 50-80g, used for computer keyboards, and calculator keypads, suitable for silicone keys that need to be clicked frequently.
The pressing force is 80-120g, which is used for: a home appliance keypad, remote control buttons, suitable pressing force, and good resilience.
The pressing force is 120-180g, used for audio equipment, industrial equipment, and mechanical remote control, and suitable for relatively large silicone keypads.
The pressing force is more than 180g-500g. This kind of silicone keypad is used less and is suitable for special industries, such as medical treatment, aviation, etc.
THE DESIGN DRAWING - 1
Preparation for the design drawing: manufacturing the silicone keypads according to the customer’s silicone sample or keypad design drawing, firstly test the sample, secondly run to the production after confirming the samples.
SILICONE MATERIAL - 2
Preparation for the silicone material: Evaluate the customer’s requirements, determine the hardness of silicone material according to the structure of the keypad, meanwhile prepare the contact pill and suction tool.
SILICONE VULCANIZATION MOLDING - 3
Silicone vulcanization molding: types with the manual flat vulcanizing machine, automatic flat vulcanizing machine and vacuum vulcanizing machine included, mold has up and down block mold, up mold opened after compressed, filling the silicone material and black contact pill to the down block mold, pressing them by the high temperature and molding machine.

SECONDARY VULCANIZATION - 5
Secondary vulcanization for silicone keypads: after high temperature molded of silicone keypads, whether if undergo the secondary vulcanization process is depending on the customer’s requirements, the purpose is to remove the residual and improve the performance of the silicone keypads.
SURFACE TREATMENT - 6
Surface treatment for the silicone keypads: oil coating, UV treatment, silk screen printing, laser, epoxy, customized based on customer’s different requirements on treatment.
DEBURRING - 7
Deburring for silicone keypads is usually a manual and die stamping method to do it, but however, many silicone keypads are complicated due to the deburring by stamping way, which requires many manual operations, thus increasing the manufacturing cost for silicone keypads.
INSPECTION QUALITY CONTROL - 8
Inspection quality control for silicone keypads:
Inspecting the quality of the silicone keypads including their size, elasticity, hardness, color, material, or unqualified, to remove the defective one.
Inspecting the surface quality of the silicone keypads including no shadow, printing overflow, blurred logo text, bad resistance, and inconspicuous light transmission.
Quality inspection for the silicone keypads including its full printing, stamping and the whole packing process to check out the good one to be packed.
